Contribute - Files stay locked open

Macromedia contribute uses a simple file locking mechanism to ensure that more than one user doesn't edit a file at the same time. This mechanism can sometimes fail if the program crashes or if something else prevents the program from deleting the file lock when the the file is closed.

First you should always ensure that someone else isn't actually editing that file or doesn't have it open on another computer. Once this is verified, browse to the folder which contains the locked file in question. Here you will find a file with the same name as the original but it will end in LCK. Delete this file. Once the file is deleted, open Contribute again and the file should no longer be marked as locked.
