Launch search or other site shortcut directly from address bar

Searches or shortcuts requiring arguments can be launched directly from the address bar using a designated keyword. For example, one could enable a quick Wikipedia search by typing wiki my subject into the address bar in Internet Explorer. Follow these steps:

- Open REGEDIT
- Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl
- Create a new subkey with the name of the shortcut word you wish to use (e.g. wiki).
- Change the Default value for the subkey to the base URL or query string, substituting %s for the arguments which will follow the shortcut word (e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%s).

An exported .reg file for the example shown above would look like this:
