How to determine ports in use by a given process

To view TCP/UDP ports which are in use by a given process we recommend the freeware utility Active Ports from SmartLine Inc.. This utility provides a real-time GUI view of which ports are in use by which processes which can be handy for troubleshooting issues like port conflicts between network-enabled applications.

If you are only interested in seeing which ports are currently open, running netstat -a from the command line will list the status of all ports in use. It will not, however, tell you which process is accessing those ports.
