Copying shares between systemsWhen moving shared data between systems, if all of your data will be placed in the same corresponding directory structure on the new server (e.g. data in D:\Shared\ on SERVER1 is moved to D:\Shared\ on SERVER2), you can quickly recreate the shares by exporting the following registry key from your old server and importing it into your new server: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\Shares The actual data must be copied separately. Robocopy, in the Windows 2003 Resource Kit Restart the Server service for the new shares to take effect. If the data path has changed between one server and the other, you may have to modify or re-create some of the paths. If exporting to a .reg file using regedit, paths can be easily modified using search/replace in notepad or another text editor.
