No Outlook folders available in Blackberry PIM synchronization

After a new install of Blackberry Desktop Manager, IntelliSync failed on the first sync saying it was unable to locate folders to synchronize. It said to check the PIM synchronization configuration and verify that Outlook source folders were selected. Upon opening the PIM configuration, all sources were set to synchronize with Outlook, but the Advanced options showed that no Outlook folder was set and the folder box was greyed out. Clicking the Browse button resulted in an hourglass for a few seconds, then nothing. It was impossible to specify the folders which we wanted to syncrhonize.

While we did not determine exactly what caused the problem, we were able to resolve/work-around it. The affected user's Outlook profile connected to his primary Exchange mailbox, an additional Exchange mailbox, as well as a number of .PSTs. Suspecting that one or more of these were causing the issue, we created a second Outlook profile which only opened the primary Exchange mailbox. Leaving the user's Outlook to open the primary profle, we configured the Blackberry Desktop Manager (and Desktop Redirector in this case) to use this secondary profile. It immediately mapped to the unrecognized folders and synchronized successfully.
