Here is a list of commands to launch many of the common Adminsitrative Tools on Windows 2000, XP, and 2003. These commands can be run from a command-line or from Start -> Run. Not all tools may be available on all platforms:

  • domain.msc - Active Directory Domains and Trusts
  • dssite.msc - Active Directory Sites and Services
  • dsa.msc - Active Directory Users and Computers
  • compmgmt.msc - Computer Management
  • devmgmt.msc - Device Manager
  • dhcpmgmt.msc - DHCP
  • dfrg.msc - Disk Defragmenter
  • dnsmgmt.msc - DNS
  • eventvwr.msc - Event Viewer
  • gpedit.msc - Group Policy
  • iis.msc - Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
  • secpol.msc - Local Security Settings

Many of these tools can be used with the switch /COMPUTER=computername if you want to launch them automatically with another computer as the focus. This is the equivalent of choosing Connect to Another Computer... from within the GUI.
