Microsoft Photo Editor window not visible

When you attempt to open an image file with Microsoft Photo Editor the program may appear to be running in the taskbar, but the Photo Editor window itself is not visible.

Clicking on the program icon in the taskbar does nothing. Right-clicking on the running program and choosing Maximize restores the window to the screen. Right-clicking and choosing Restore, or double-clicking the title bar of the Photo Editor window causes the window to disappear again.

The program is actually running, but has opened "off-screen" in a virtual area of the desktop outside the viewable area of the monitor.

One cause of this issue is if any part of the Photo Editor window is not visible when the window is closed or the screen resolution changes so the last saved window position would leave the window partially obscured, the next time Photo Editor is started it will open in this invisible state.

To restore the window to the viewable area of the monitor:

- Start Photo Editor.
- Right-click on the running program in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and choose Move.
- Push any arrow key on the keyboard. This will bring the window back into the visible area of the screen and will automatically set the mouse to control the window movement.
- Use the mouse to bring the entire window into the visible area of the monitor.
- Close the Photo Editor window. Provided you do not change the screen resolution, it will open correctly next time.
